BIDDEFORD — Incumbent York County Commissioner Richard Dutremble has announced his candidacy for the Democratic nod in the June primary for the District 2 seat — which includes Biddeford, Arundel, Kennebunk and Kennebunkport.

The Biddeford native is in his fourth term and announced he will seek a fifth — and what he described as his final term — at a county commissioner’s meeting on Dec. 15.

Elected county officials serve four-year terms.

“My reason for running is driven by my interest in making sure that the $40 million of the American Rescue Plan Funding that we received from the federal government benefits the taxpayers and not special interest groups,” said Dutremble in a news release.

So far, Dutremble said, county commissioners have approved $1.5 million in rescue plan funding for a center to serve young people 10–18 years old in Biddeford; is planning funding to expand the Layman Way Recovery Center to help people with drug, alcohol, and mental health matters; approved funding to plan a training center for first responders; and allocated funds for a housing project in southern York County.

“As your commissioner I only promised two things when I was first elected to this office: be fiscally responsible and to try to keep your taxes to a minimum,” Dutremble, a retired comptroller for Biddeford, said in the release. “I thank you for your past support and hope that you will support me one last time.”
