LEWISTON — An own goal with 11:32 remaining capped Brunswick’s comeback from a two-goal deficit as the fifth-seeded Dragons upset top-ranked Lewiston 3-2 in a Class A North boys’ soccer semifinal Friday.
Lewiston (14-1-1), was seeking a fourth straight regional title, built a 2-0 lead in the first 16 minutes on a pair of unassisted goals by Shafi Ibrahim.
Liam Driscoll put Brunswick (13-3-1) on the board with 5:13 remaining in the first half, assisted by Iain Clendening. Clendening also set up Luke Patterson’s tying goal in the final minute of the half.
The Dragons advance to play No. 2 Camden Hills on Wednesday at Messalonskee High.
WAYNFLETE 4, LISBON 2: The second-seeded Flyers (13-3) scored three second-half goals to defeat the third-seeded Greyhounds (12-2-2) in a Class C South semifinal in Portland.
Samir Sayed put Waynflete up 2-1 with 30 minutes remaining. Two quick goals in the final 15 minutes by Jasper Curtis and Jacob Woodman extended the lead to 4-1.
A goal by Hunter Brissette gave Lisbon a 1-0 lead in the first half.
Waynflete’s Matt Adey put home a Henry Hart corner kick to tie the game.
The Flyers will play for the regional title Tuesday at Lewiston High against No. 1 Mt. Abram.
NORTH YARMOUTH ACADEMY 2, RICHMOND 1: Matt Powers scored the tying goal midway through the second half and Hans-Erik Jerosch got the winner five minutes later as the third-seeded Panthers (10-4-2) rallied past the No. 2 Bobcats (11-5) in a Class D South semifinal at Richmond.
Powers put in a header after a corner kick to tie the game, after Chance Taylor put Richmond ahead with a header early in the second half.
Jerosch also scored off a corner kick, with a shot from just outside the penalty box.
NYA will play for the regional title Tuesday at Messalonskee High against No. 1 Islesboro.
GIRLS’ SOCCER
NORTH YARMOUTH ACADEMY 5, RICHMOND 0: Angel Huntsman scored a pair of goals and the top-seeded Panthers (15-0-1) used a four-goal second half to pull away from the No. 4 Bobcats (8-5) in a Class D South semifinal at Yarmouth.
Hayden Wienckowski and Kailyn McIntyre also scored. Emily Robbins had two assists to help send NYA to Tuesday’s regional final at Messalonskee High against No. 2 Rangeley,
Liz Johnson made 14 saves for Richmond.
FIELD HOCKEY
SKOWHEGAN 4, MESSALONSKEE 1: Layla Conway scored twice in the second quarter to start the top-ranked River Hawks (16-0) on their way to a Class A North semifinal win over the No. 5 Eagles (11-6) in Skowhegan.
Conway opened the scoring, then put Skowhegan ahead for a good after Messalonskee’s Francesa Caccamo tied the game.
Skowhegan broke it open in the third quarter, thanks to goals by Laney LeBlanc and Gemma Kennedy.
FOOTBALL
NOBLE 10, SOUTH PORTLAND 7: Anthony Prak ran in for a touchdown midway through the second quarter, putting fourth-seeded Noble (7-2) ahead for good against fifth-seeded South Portland (4-5) in a Class B South quarterfinal at North Berwick.
The Knights will play at top-seeded Portland (9-0) in the semifinals next Friday.
After South Portland took a 7-0 lead in the first quarter, Noble came back with a safety before Prak’s winning touchdown. Neither team scored in the second half.
WINDHAM 56, MT. BLUE 0: Will Leadbetter threw for 156 yards and three touchdowns to power the top-seeded Eagles (7-0) past the No. 8 Cougars (1-6) in a Class B North quarterfinal at Windham.
Haddon Boyle ran for 116 yards and two touchdowns. Tate Chork chipped in with a 15-yard touchdown run, and Alex Yetten had a 23-yard touchdown catch.
The Eagles will host No. 4 Skowhegan in the semifinals.
PORTLAND 63, BIDDEFORD 14: Grant Crosby connected with Kennedy Charles for two touchdown passes – 31 and 60 yards – and also ran for two scores as the top-seeded Bulldogs (9-0) cruised past the No. 8 Tigers (1-8) in a Class B South quarterfinal at Portland.
Devin Hall had a 39-yard touchdown run, and Nathan Isajar returned an interception 59 yards for a score.
Patrick O’Driscoll threw a 54-yard touchdown to Colin Gregoire and ran for a 31-yard TD for Biddeford.
MORSE 56, CAMDEN HILLS 36: Gabe Aucoin scored four touchdowns as second-seeded Morse (6-2) powered into the eight-man Large School North final by rallying past third-seeded Camden Hills (4-3) at Bath.
It was the third game of the season between the teams, Camden Hills winning the first and the Shipbuilders taking the next two. Morse will be at top-seeded Waterville (6-1) next Saturday.
Aucoin scored on runs of 77, 21 and 8 yards and hauled in a 15-yard TD pass from Josh ter Mors.
The Shipbuilders trailed 22-14 after the first quarter, then held the Windjammers scoreless in the second and third.
BONNY EAGLE 55, SANFORD 8: Nick Klein had 12 carries for 109 yards and four touchdowns as the Scots (5-3) handled the Spatans (3-4) in Standish.
All of Klein’s stats came in the first half, when Bonny Eagle built a 40-0 lead. Terrell Edwards had five carries for 92 yards and a touchdown, also all in the first half.
Trevor Perkins added two rushing touchdowns for the Scots.
Hayden Connarton scored on a 3-yard run in the fourth quarter for Sanford.
THORNTON ACADEMY 51, SCARBOROUGH 0: Hayden Whitney had 12 carries for 103 yards and two touchdowns, and the Golden Trojans (9-0) finished an undefeated regular season with a win over the Red Storm (4-3) in Saco.
Jack Emerson completed 12 of 20 passes for 183 yards, including a 68-yard touchdown to Anthony Jones. Alex St. John rushed eight times for 61 yards and a TD.
Isaiah Jones, who had four catches for 44 yards, intercepted three passes for Thornton, which will get a bye into the Class A semifinals as the No. 1 seed.
