Carol Stiles Huntoon

CAPE ELIZABETH – Carol Stiles Huntoon, 85, died Sept. 6, 2021 at the Maine Medical Hospital after a short illness.

She was born on May 19, 1936 in Concord, N.H. to the late Hazel M. and Cecil Stiles. She attended Concord Local School and graduated from Concord High School in 1955. Upon graduation she began working at Concord Savings Bank as a teller and made banking her life-long career. She held many customer service and supervisory positions in several banks that she worked for in New Hampshire, Vermont and Maine.

In 1958 Carol met, and swept Arthur “Curt” Huntoon off his feet, and they married in 1959. To say this wonderful woman was a devoted wife and mother would be an understatement. She was a free spirited, nonjudgmental woman who had a heart of gold and passed her compassionate nature to her four children and grandchildren.

During her meaningful life she gave unselfishly to many organizations as a volunteer, church member, or serving on several boards of directors, such as the Salvation Army. In her younger years she participated in Girl Scouts. She organized and led several large jamborees. She was always contributing and doing her part. Every Halloween she delighted in entertaining the children of her Cape Elizabeth neighborhood.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Doris, Theda and Shirley, brother, Cecil; and her grandchildren Amy Elizabeth Goldberger, and Alex Cossette.

Surviving her is her beloved and ever grateful husband, Arthur “Curt” Huntoon; son, Jeffrey and wife Nicole of Trier, Germany, daughters Kim and husband Randy Andre of Suwanee, Ga., Andrea and Paul Boutin of Saco, and Jennifer and David Goldberger of West Palm Beach, Fla.; and her sister, Audrey Riedel of Leesburg, Va.; as well as seven grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

At Carol’s request, there will not be a funeral service. Her family will gather and together remember and celebrate this remarkable wife and mother’s life.

Arrangements entrusted to Hobbs Funeral Home, South Portland. Online condolences may be expressed at http://www.hobbsfh.com.
