An accident on the southbound side of Route 1 in Brunswick on Tuesday afternoon resulted in a traffic backup, but no injuries, police say.

According to police, three cars were involved in the rear-end collision that was caused from a vehicle following another too closely.

The crash shut down one lane of the roadway, which, combined with rush hour traffic, caused the delays.

Drugs, alcohol or distracted driving were not determined to be a factor in the crash, police say.

Two officers responded to the scene, the first arriving shortly after the crash at 3:46 p.m.

Two of the vehicles were towed from the crash site, one of which police believe is damaged beyond repair.

The area was cleared by 4:25 p.m.
