Portland Public Library patrons soon will be able to access books and other materials in person again.

The first floor and lower levels of the main library at Monument Square will reopen  June 22. The building will be open Monday through Friday with expanded hours beginning in early July. The Peak’s Island branch will reopen June 15. Reopening dates for the Burbank and Riverton branches will be announced soon, the library said.

Masks will be required at each location and the library will provide them if needed.

“We serve people from every age, demographic, and background, including young children, medically vulnerable individuals, and others who are not yet vaccinated. The mask requirement helps us protect those who may still be at risk from COVID-19,” Executive Director Sarah Campbell said.

The Portland Room will remain closed to the public until later in the summer, but staff is available for online or phone research assistance.

There will be no capacity limits, aside from a cap of 15 at the teen library section. Library visits will be limited to 30 minutes. Public computers will be available for use and printing services will be offered.
