BIDDEFORD — There is an Honor Flight set for September, where 100 seats are reserved for veterans. It is headed to Washington D.C. where those who served are treated to a tour, see the monuments, and reminisce with their fellow veterans.
On Friday May 28, as American flags were being placed on gravestones at St. Joseph Cemetery by Biddeford Intermediate School students and members of the Biddeford-Saco Rotary Club, another veteran-related event was going on there too. Biddeford-Saco Rotary Club President Don Pilon presented a $5,000 check to Honor Flight Maine to help fund the program.
Contributing to Honor Flight Maine was among his goals as president of the club, Pilon said, and noted that the money comes from the Company B fund, established some years ago with funds entrusted to the club from a veteran’s organization.
Honor Flight Maine Board Chair Laurie Sidelinger said the organization is grateful for the donation. During the pandemic, there were no honor flights, but as Maine and the nation begin to reopen, the opportunity came for the September flight.
