Lt. Eugene Brown

PORTLAND – Navy Lt. Eugene Brown died Saturday, May 22, 2021 of a heart attack. He was 65 years old.

Gene was a graduate of Portland High School, received a bachelor’s degree in economics from Syracuse University and graduated from Officer’s Candidate School in Newport, R.I. He later earned a master’s degree from Florida Institute of Technology.

He served for several years as an officer in the Navy in Washington D.C.

Many may have noticed Gene standing at the end of the street carrying a sign, drinking a cup of coffee and chatting with any who would care to stop and listen.

He will be remembered as a sweet, caring, gentle man who was always ready to help. His dry sense of humor and obtuse outlook on life is what made Eugene such an interesting and memorable individual.

He will be missed by many. Friends, family and acquaintances all found something special in Gene. We all love you still. Rest in peace.
