John D. Nagle

CUMBERLAND – John D. Nagle, 74, sadly passed away May 15, 2021 surrounded by his family. In May 1946 John was born in Westerly, R.I. to John and Josephine (Gilchrist) Nagle.

He enjoyed playing football and trumpet through high school, attended college at URI, UMASS, and did post doctorate at Harvard. He was an accomplished biochemist with PhD, BCLD, FACB, recently finished up a long career and retired a senior research and development manager at Maine Standards.

John or also well known by family and friends as “J.D.” or “J” and resided in Cumberland for the past 32-plus years. Everyone knew what a great chef he was especially anything spicy hot! He enjoyed cooking for others, having a drink with them, making fireworks as a kid (which may have contributed to his chemistry career), music and photography.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years; two sons; grandchildren; and dog, Skipper.

There is a celebration of life to be held at Spring Meadows Golf and Country Club, 59 Lewiston Rd., in Gray on June 6 from 1 to 5 p.m. (brief ceremony at 2 p.m.) for friends and family.
