Town, school elections
Balloting will be open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. on election day, June 8, at Buxton Town Hall, 185 Portland Road, to vote for School Administrative District 6 Board of Directors and candidates in municipal elections.
In the SAD 6 election, incumbent Ellen DeCotiss of Buxton faces no competition.
The SAD 6 seat with a Hollis residency requirement is a race between challenger Kelley C. Heath and incumbent Trevor Hustus, the board’s present chairperson. Paul Welch of Standish is unchallenged and there is no candidate from Frye Island for a two-year term. The other terms on the school board are for three years.
Voters in each of the school district’s five towns – Buxton, Frye Island, Hollis, Limington and Standish – will cast ballots for all the available seats in the district.
In a school validation referendum, voters will be asked to OK the SAD 6 budget approved in a district meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 27, at Bonny Eagle High School, 700 Saco Road, Standish. Any registered voter in the five towns can also vote in the district meeting.
The SAD 6 Board of Directors last month approved a $54.3 million spending plan, up $1 million, or 1.89%, from the budget for the present fiscal year.
All local candidates are running unopposed. The slate includes Chad Poitras, current chairperson of the Board of Selectmen; Planning Board Chairperson Keith Emery and member Christopher Baldinelli; and Budget Committee member Tyler Ladd. All seats are for three-year terms.
