The South Portland and Cape Elizabeth school budgets both go to referendum on June 8, with an option for voters to request absentee ballots.
Cape Elizabeth announced on May 25 that polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on June 8 at Cape Elizabeth High School.
The Cape Elizabeth Town Council approved the fiscal year 2022 school budget of $29.9 million on May 10, as well as the municipal general fund fiscal year 2022 budget of $16.9 million.
“After a recent adjustment in state revenue sharing which added an additional $200,000, the total net to taxes to be raised is ($35.8 million),” announced the town on its website. “The total tax rate rate (combining municipal, county assessment, school department) is $20.49; a 2.86 percent increase.”
According to the town, Cape Elizabeth voters may request an absentee ballot online or by calling the town clerk’s office, 799-7665. People can find forms at capeelizabeth.com/news/post/2560.
“After June 3, voters requesting an Accessible Absentee Ballot may do so by contacting the town clerk at debra.lane@capeelizabeth.org until 4 p.m. Election Day,” said website. “Completed ballots must be received by the town clerk by 8 p.m. Election Day.”
The South Portland June 8 referendum will take place at the community center gym, located at 21 Nelson Road. According to the city, free bus transportation will be available. The polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
South Portland’s fiscal year 2022 school budget is proposed at $53.9 million. The city council approved the budget for referendum on May 18.
According to South Portland’s website, the last day to request an absentee ballot is June 4. Voters interested in an absentee ballot can contact the city clerk at 767-3201 or visit southportland.org/departments/city-clerk/elections-voter-registration.
South Portland, via its Facebook page, sent out a reminder about an option available to voters: ” … If you choose to vote absentee, you may use the drop box outside of the city hall to return your ballot right up until 8 p.m. on June 8.”
