KENNEBUNK – In honor of Memorial Day and those who served in the military and died for their country, Dave and Patty Ferris are asking fellow residents if they wish to contribute to the purchase of signs they intend to place around Kennebunk on Sunday evening, May 29.
The signs will say “Never forget their sacrifice. Memorial Day 2021.”
The gesture of remembrance comes as the country and the community pause for Memorial Day at a time when, due to the pandemic, the usual parades are not scheduled. The signs are designed to complement Memorial Day services that begin at 7 a.m. on Route 1 at the Mousam River Bridge on Monday May 31.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
