We hear quite a bit about certain qualifications for candidates for elected office. Do they have the skills to grapple with our town’s issues? Can they navigate bureaucracy to get things done? These are critical questions and I believe that when we talk about Mark Segrist, the answers are emphatically yes.
There are other questions, however, that we may not focus on as much. Can this person bring people together to solve problems? Can they help see through the mire and find common ground? When it comes to problem-solving and community building, I can think of no better person than Mark.
Mark has always struck me as a person dedicated to listening and understanding. He reaches out to people and takes time to learn about their lives and concerns. Voting for Mark will help bring his focus on working together and building bridges to the Cumberland Town Council.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
