LONG ISLAND – Paul Wesley Stevens, 88, of Long Island, Maine, passed away on May 17, 2021, following a period of declining health. He was born in Portland, Maine, on Feb. 27, 1933. He graduated from Portland High School in 1951 and graduated from U.N.H. in the apprentice program with an engineering degree, in 1957. He was hired by General Electric, beginning a 35 year career with jet engines. Paul married the love of his life, Joanne Jackson in 1955, and raised four children together. They became GE gypsies, and lived in Ohio, New York, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine.Paul is survived by his wife of 65 years, Joanne, his four children; Kim (Tom) MacVane, Long Island, Paul Eric (Patsy) Stevens, Clarksville, Tenn., Craig (Deborah) Stevens, Revere, Mass., and Scott (Heather) Stevens, Garland, 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, his sister, Cynthia Ross, brother, Richard (Sarah) Ladd, sisters-in-law, Rita Stevens and Donna Jackson, and many dear nieces and nephews.Paul was predeceased by his parents, Marian Ladd and Leon Stevens, brother, Peter Stevens, brothers-in-law, Harlan Ross and William Jackson.Paul was an outstanding husband, grandfather, great-grandfather and uncle, but above all else, father. He was a dad ahead of his time. He gave evening baths years before it was vogue, he helped with homework, read stories and always had time to spend with his family. He and Joanne renovated many homes together, and taught their offspring how to swing a hammer and use a paint brush at an early age. Not one of his children moved into a new house that wasn’t fixed up, repaired or modified by him. You never left his home without a kiss, a hug and with a sparkle in his eye and a smile on his face, an “I love you”. All our love, always.A service to celebrate Paul’s life will be held Saturday, June 12, 2021, at 1 p.m., at Evergreen Methodist Church, on Long Island.Online condolence messages can be submitted at the Chad E.
