Scarborough town officials have narrowed the field of candidates for police chief to two, and expect a decision by early next month, according to Town Manager Tom Hall.
Police Chief Robbie Moulton, after more than 40 years with the department, is retiring effective July 3.
Hall said the town initially had a pool of nine candidates. After interviewing seven, he said, two finalists were selected. He declined to identify them or indicate whether they were internal or external candidates, but said he would be conducting final interviews next week.
Hall said he expects to meet his goal of having a new chief in place by mid-June.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
