SCARBOROUGH — Michael McLeer capped a three-run fifth inning with a two-run single, and Cody Bowker and Joshua Kopetski combined on a four-hitter as Thornton Academy slipped past Scarborough, 3-2, in a clash of unbeaten Class A baseball teams Saturday.
Brady Graffam tied the game with an RBI double before McLeer’s hit gave Thornton (6-0) a 3-1 lead.
Bowker struck out nine, walked three and allowed one earned run in six-plus innings. Kopetski retired the final three batters for the save.
Joe Townsend had two hits and an RBI for Scarborough (6-1).
CHEVERUS SWEEPS WINDHAM: Sam Clark pitched a four-hitter in Game 1 and Jackson Header allowed only three hits in Game 2 as the Stags (7-3) beat the Eagles (2-7) twice in Portland, 3-0 and 10-0.
Clark struck out 12 and walked only one as he won a matchup against Windham ace Brady Afthim, who also gave up four hits while fanning 11 without a walk.
Clark scored the first run on an RBI single by Nick Giancotti. The Stags added two runs in the third inning on singles by Brady Cormier and Matt Connor, an error and a sacrifice fly by Brian Connolly.
In the five-inning second game, Header struck out three and did not allow a walk.
Giancotti led a 12-hit attack for Cheverus, going 3-for-3 with a triple, a double and two RBI. Header had two singles and a double, and Brian Connolly and Kevin Connolly each drove in two runs.
SOUTH PORTLAND SWEEPS BONNY EAGLE: Nolan Hobbs allowed only three hits in Game 1 and Andrew Heffernan pitched a one-hitter in Game 2 as the Red Riots (7-1) shut out the Scots (1-8) twice in South Portland, 9-0 and 10-0.
Connor Dobson and Noah Dreifus combined for four hits and three runs scored in the opener.
Heffernan took a no-hitter into the fifth inning in Game 2, and the Red Riots broke a scoreless tie with a seven-run fourth inning. Heffernan ended the game by the 10-run rule with an RBI single in the sixth after a triple by Richard Gilboy.
WESTBROOK, BIDDEFORD SPLIT: Scott Kelley had two hits, two RBI and two runs scored, and Will Harriman added a two-run single as Biddeford (4-4) salvaged a doubleheader split against Westbrook (2-6) with an 8-5 win in Game 2, at Biddeford.
Alex Hodgkins hit a solo home run for Westbrook.
In Game 1, Alex Bean recorded three hits and two RBI, and Matthew Eugley added two hits and two RBI for Westbrook in a 5-4 victory.
Ashton Crowell had two hits and an RBI for Biddeford.
GORHAM, PORTLAND SPLIT: Bennett Berg broke up Kyle Skofield’s no-hit bid with a one-out double in the seventh inning and scored on a single by Andrew Brewer as Portland (1-5) got its first win of the season, 2-1, in a doubleheader opener against visiting Gorham (6-3).
Cody Sellick singled home Bode Meader in the fourth inning for Gorham’s only runs.
In Game 2, Caleb Hendrix hit a bases-loaded triple during a six-run second inning, propelling Gorham to a 9-1 win.
EDWARD LITTLE 4, BRUNSWICK 1: Clay Robbins scored the go-ahead run on a squeeze play in the seventh inning and Patrick Anthoine followed with a two-run double as the Red Eddies (6-3) defeated the Dragons (1-9) in Brunswick.
Anthoine also had an RBI in the fifth inning. Alex Avila needed only 64 pitches to complete a six-hitter.
Decklin Lay produced two hits and RBI for Brunswick, and Tom Harvey also had two hits.
LACROSSE
OAK HILL/MONMOUTH/LISBON 17, LINCOLN ACADEMY 3: Tiger Hopkins scored eight times for the Raiders (6-0) in a win over the Eagles (1-2) in Wales.
Deandre Daniels contributed three goals, and Riley Worth and Gabe Samson each had a goal and two assists. Ryan Foster, Gavin Leet, Sean Moore and Jacob Godbout also scored.
Lincoln got two goals from Wyatt Banks and one from Nate Coolidge.
ST. DOMINIC 9, FRYEBURG ACADEMY 8: Roman Vitolo score three of his five goals in the fourth quarter as St. Dom’s (2-3) rallied for a win at Fryeburg.
Murphy Randall contributed two goals and an assist, and Michael Stowe and Garrett Kendall also scored for the Saints.
Will Galligan, Rochon Hixel, Haden Fox each had two goals for Fryeburg (4-3). Owen Galligan and Myles Garland scored a goal apiece.
BERWICK ACADEMY 13, BIDDEFORD 2: Nick McSorley scored six goals against his former team, leading the Bulldogs (6-0) past the Tigers (3-5) in Biddeford.
WAYNFLETE 7, YORK 5: Harry Millspaugh scored three goals as the Flyers (7-0) rallied from a 4-1 deficit against the Wildcats (4-4) in Portland.
Millspaugh scored twice in the third quarter and Ned Lane added a goal to tie it at 4.
Millspaugh then broke the tie in the fourth quarter. Owen Anderson and Roan Hopkins padded the lead before Ben Hines scored a late goal for York.
Alex Vest stopped 12 shots for the Flyers, while Alex Malinoski made 17 saves for York.
