Big bash in Buxton
The Dorcas Society of Hollis and Buxton, along with the town of Buxton, are planning to hold the annual Dorcas Fest and Community Day on Aug. 7, complete with a parade, a performance by The Mallett Brothers Band and fireworks.
The event will be held at Tory Hill, which is at the intersection of Routes 202 and 112.
After the pandemic caused the annual community celebration to be canceled last year, the Dorcas Dash 5K road race and the Cars & Coffee Show will return to the Brewster Mansion, where both kick off at 8 a.m. The Tory Hill Meeting House lawn sale opens at 9 a.m.
“Exciting news,” Town Clerk John Myers said in an email. “The Town of Buxton’s Board of Selectmen have approved moving forward with the 2021 Buxton Community Parade.”
The parade will step off at 11 a.m.
“The theme will be ‘Everything Maine.’ Uplifting the entire state in honor of Maine’s bicentennial, missed in 2020,” Myers said.
To register for the parade, contact Myers at 929-6171.
The Mallett Brothers will entertain at 6 p.m., followed by fireworks sponsored by the Narragansett Number One Foundation. Tickets will be available at eventbrite.com.
A Dorcas Fest flyer says COVID protocols may be required and the celebration could possibly be canceled by order of the governor’s office. For more information, contact Bev at 929-6495 or see the Dorcas Society of Hollis and Buxton page on Facebook.
