PORTLAND – Robert B. Olesen of Portland, passed away peacefully on May 5, 2021, after a brief illness. Bob was born in Portland on Dec. 4, 1933. He grew up in Portland, and graduated from Deering High School, the University of New Hampshire and the United States Navy’s Officers Candidate School in Newport R.I. He then served on the USS Leyte and at the U.S. Naval Security Station in Washington, D.C. Following his service in the Navy, he worked at Unisys as a Computer Systems Analysis, MIS Manager at Coca Cola Bottling of Maine and a representative at Unum.
Bob was an avid skier, and enjoyed skiing at various ski areas in the United States and Europe. Summers were spent on Little Sebago Lake. Bob enjoyed watching and supporting UNH and New England sports teams’ year round.
He is predeceased by his parents; and his sister, Sarah Thomas.
Bob is survived by his wife, Helen; and his son, Kevin and his wife Elizabeth, all of Portland; brother, Peter and wife Linda of Michigan, brother-in-law, Edward Thomas of California; grandsons Jonathon and companion Deepa Chelliah of Baltimore Md., and Casey and his fiancé Kelsey Doane of Hampden; and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 12, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 673 Stevens Ave., Portland, ME 04103. Following the Mass, a reception will be held at Jones, Rich, and Barnes Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St., Portland ME 04103.
