Obey dog leashing rules
To the editor,
As a volunteer Piping Plover monitor, I would like to remind Saco residents and visitors that all dogs must be leashed and under the control of owners at all times on Saco beaches from April 1 to Sept. 30, with the leash being no longer that 12 feet.
Plovers have already been spotted locally and traditionally nest between Kinney Shores, Bayview and Camp Ellis beginning in April.
It is also important to note that dogs are not allowed on sports or playing fields and must be leashed at all times in all public parks and spaces.
Space for dogs to run freely is available at the Saco Dog Park on School Street, with both large and small areas set aside to accommodate different breeds.
Please also respect the rules of Laurel Hill Cemetery, which is popular for many walkers, but which also does not allow dogs.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
