Victor Catir
NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. – Mr. Victor Catir, 89, of New Port Richey, Fla., formally of Munjoy Hill and Vannah Avenue, in Portland and also of Higgins Beach, Scarborough..
Victor died on Feb. 22, 2021, peacefully of natural causes. He was the son of Salem J. and Edna Maloof Catir. Victor graduated from Portland High School and Gorham State Teachers College. He was well known for his musical talents and was a music teacher for the Portland School Department for many years. He was a magnificent piano player! Victor, along with his two brothers, Richard Catir Sr. and Frank Catir, formed the Catir Brothers Orchestra. They played in many places throughout Maine such as: Fort Williams in Cape Elizabeth, The Palace on the Pier in Old Orchard Beach. Victor was also a lecturer for Weight Watchers.
Victor is survived by his niece, Mrs. Katherine Anthoine. Kathy has many fond memories of spending time during Christmas with her uncle, playing piano together, playing with his cats and lots of fun times at Higgins Beach.
Victor was predeceased by his parents; brothers Richard “Dick” Catir Sr. and Frank Catir; and nephew, Richard Catir Jr. Victor was also predeceased by his best friend, David Whitten.
Victor was a faithful member of St. Paul’s Anglican Church in Portland. A private graveside service will be held.
Thank you to Najlia Kerrigan of Portland for being so caring to my uncle in his last years. I know your phone conversations were very special to him. Special thanks to Linda Wirshels of New Port Richey, Fla. for caring and watching over Victor and especially for being there for him during his final hours.
