MECA Made (mecashop.meca.edu) is a pop-up online store, featuring curated work by current students, alumni and faculty of the Maine College of Art. The Spring Sale is open through Wednesday, May 5, with paintings, prints, ceramics, jewelry and more that “evoke the hope and growth of the new season.”
Tea towels by Alex Boucher MAT ’19 of Quiet Coast Goods
Aries season may be over, but you can be the GOAT year-round. At 28” x 28”, these tea towels are large enough to be repurposed as a small tapestry, tablecloth, wine bottle wrap, or whatever else you can think of. Four styles available from $22 to $24.
Bee Love notepads by Evelyn Wong MFA ’19 of Fireball Bookbindery
Every “Bee Love” product is made from salvaged, handmade papers from the bookbindery and then bound using Japanese stab-binding to create one-of-a-kind notepads. Each notepad contains between 36 and 48 pages. Eight styles available, $18 each.
Bud vases by Julie Cunningham ’00 of Julie Cunningham Ceramics
These slippery little forms look like they emerged from the defrosting earth along with the flowers that they hold. Made of earthenware clay with glaze and terra sigillata. Ten styles available from $38 to $65.
Seeds for Pollinators by Hannah Rosengren ‘13
Each tin of Seeds for Pollinators contains 12 seed bombs with native and naturalized plants that will thrive in Northeast gardens. The Bee Mix includes alyssum, borage, catmint, coreopsis, lemon Balm and tithonia. The Monarch Mix includes lovage, coneflower, phacelia, butterfly weed and verbena. $12 each.
Sculptures by Don Best ‘81
If you have spent any time in Maine over the last 20 years, chances are you have seen a Don Best sculpture somewhere. His folk-style carvings, often in basswood, are inspired by wildlife and nature. Art bargain hunters will notice a slight dip in pricing at Best’s alma mater. Seven sculptures are available, from $95 to $475.
