The Equality Community Center has purchased 15 Casco St. in Portland as a new headquarters for LGBTQ+ and allied organizations and community members.
The purchase was facilitated by a $1 million gift from a donor who wishes to remain anonymous, gifts from several major donors and ongoing investment of loyal contributors, the organization said in a press release. The organization, previously housed at 511 Congress St., will begin fundraising for renovations and repairs required for occupancy and accessibility.
The planned relocation aligns with ECC’s vision for a full spectrum community center in the heart of Portland that houses LGBTQ+ and allied organizations; provides socialization support and health services; and, in the future, will offer affordable and market-rate rental housing, the ECC said in a press release.
ECC now houses EqualityMaine, Pride Portland!, the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network, PFLAG, MaineTransNet, and Services and Advocacy for LGBT Elders.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
