Lincoln Middle School and Reiche Community School in Portland are both closed Friday.
Reiche is closed due to a plumbing issue, which means water at the building can’t be used. Lincoln is closed because of the number of staff in quarantine due to a recent COVID-19 case, in combination with other staff absences due to reasons that include vaccination appointments, the district said in a news release.
Students at both schools who were scheduled to learn in-person will instead have synchronous remote classes, according to the release from Portland Public Schools.
Meals will be available for students at Portland, Deering and Casco Bay high schools and at Talbot Community School from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.
Reiche is expected to reopen Monday and the district will monitor the situation at Lincoln for the start of next week. Families were informed of the closings on Thursday and will be updated again if there are any changes to Lincoln’s schedule for the start of the week.
