Edmond G. Guay Sr.

KENNEBUNK – Edmond G. Guay Sr., 90, passed away peacefully at Huntington Common on March 16, 2021 surrounded by family. Ed was born in Auburn on August 5, 1930 to Arthur and Rosilda Guay.

He grew up on a farm located in Alfred and enlisted in the Army soon after turning 18 on August 17, 1948. Ed was part of the 187th Airborne division were he fought overseas in the Korean War and eventually honorably discharged from the service as a decorated sergeant with numerous metals one being a Bronze star for bravery.

Ed came back to live in Maine where he raised his three children with his first wife, Hiroko Oga, who later passed away in 1970. Ed eventually married again to Alice Belanger on July 3, 1971. Throughout Ed’s career he held numerous positions including an auto mechanic, aircraft painter, diving for the local police department and eventually owning his own garage in Sanford named Ed’s Airport Garage.

After retirement Ed and Alice traveled around the country in their RV spending most of their winter months in Texas and Florida where they spent most of their days fishing. When Ed wasn’t working he enjoyed flying, building planes, traveling with his wife Alice, gardening and fishing. Edmond was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be dearly missed by all of his family members and friends.

Ed was predeceased by his wife, Alice Guay; parents, Arthur and Rosilda Guay; his sisters, Helen, Alexina, Arlene, brothers, Victor and Donald; and daughter-in-law, Melody Krueger Guay.

He is survived by his sister, Terry Bastarache of Biddeford; sons, Paul Guay of Springvale, Peter Belanger and his wife Celeste of Acton, Edmond Guay Jr. and his wife Kelly of Waterboro, daughters, Elaine Seager and husband Tom of Florida, Lorraine Knowles and husband Randy of Florida; and many grandchildren.

A burial service will be held at the Springvale Veterans Cemetery later this spring.
