Icy roads contributed to several accidents around southern Maine on Saturday, including a head-on collision in Naples that left four people injured.

The accident happened around 5 p.m. on Route 114 in Naples, near Burnell Road, according to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office. A Toyota truck operated by Khlid Zghair, 48, of Naples crossed the centerline and struck a Jeep Compass driven by Talisha Goodine-Mitchell, 34, also of Naples, police said.

Both vehicles sustained extensive damage. Zghair, who was alone, suffered non-life threatening injuries, as did Goodine-Mitchell and two passengers, who were taken from the scene for treatment, police said. Alcohol was not a factor but the cause remains under investigation. Several area fire and EMS crews responded.

Black ice was also the likely cause of three crashes – within minutes of each other – on Route 100 near the Auburn line in New Gloucester around 7:15 p.m. Saturday, police said. In the most serious crash, a Kia driven by Jennifer Mason, 36, of Sabattus rolled over after she lost control on the ice-covered roadway, the sheriff’s office said. None of the accidents resulted in serious injury.
