A Massachusetts man died Friday night in a snowmobile crash in Franklin County, the Maine Warden Service said Saturday.
Ryan Ducharme, 34, of Spencer, Massachusetts, was driving on a trail in Madrid with three other snowmobilers at around 10:30 p.m. Shortly before the group arrived at their camp, another member, Ducharme’s brother, noticed that he wasn’t behind them.

The brother, whom authorities didn’t name, turned back and found Ducharme unresponsive off the trail near his vehicle, which had crashed into trees. NorthStar EMS pronounced Ducharme dead at the scene, according to a news release from the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife.
An initial investigation indicated that alcohol was not a factor, but speed may have been, the warden service said. Ducharme was wearing a helmet.
The Maine Warden Service, NorthStar EMS, the Phillips Fire Department and the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene.
