The Maine Gerontological Society at the University of Maine’s Center on Aging is launching a state-wide photography contest, Focus on Real Aging in Maine.
The contest’s purpose, according to a release, is “to refocus and reframe the way we view older Mainers by highlighting positive, realistic portrayals of aging in Maine.”
The contest is open to both amateur and professional photographers. MGS is holding two Zoom sessions on March 10, for those who would like more guidance on what MGS is looking for in entries.
The Maine Community Foundation and Elder Abuse Institute of Maine has funded seven prize packages for the best photos. Each package includes contributions to the winner’s charity or nonprofit of choice, cash awards and gifts from various Maine businesses.
MGS will create a library featuring the winning photos to be available for limited non-commercial use on websites and publications.
