Two men were taken to a hospital Friday night after a head-on collision in Standish that caused one of the vehicles to split in half. 

The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office and Standish Fire/EMS responded to a two-vehicle crash on Chadbourne Road, also known as Route 35, just after 5:45 p.m. on Friday. 

Daniel Potter, 19, of Windham, was driving a 2001 Dodge Dakota pickup truck when he crossed the centerline and collided head on with a 2006 Chrysler minivan driven by Corey St. Pierre, 31, of Baldwin, according to a statement from the sheriff’s office. 

The violent force of impact caused the truck to split in half, separating the cab from the truck bed. There were no passengers in either vehicle and both Potter and St. Pierre were taken to Maine Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries, police said. 

Chadbourne Road between Route 237 and Route 114 was closed for over an hour while crews worked to extricate the drivers from their vehicles. 

Despite light snow accumulation on the road, police said they believe the crash was a result of driver fatigue. 

Neither alcohol nor speed were contributing factors, and police have not yet determined if any charges will be filed. The crash remains under investigation.
