Ella McGowan scored 13 points, Nyabhana Lia added 12 and the Deering girls’ basketball team snapped a 22-game losing streak with a 54-32 win over Cape Elizabeth on Tuesday evening at Deering High School.
Freshman Maya Gayle added 10 points for the Rams (1-2), who won for the first time since the 2019 Class AA North tournament.
The Rams went on a 13-2 run in the first quarter, then scored 13 straight in the second to stretch their lead to 20 points.
Emily Supple scored 11 points for Cape Elizabeth, which was playing its first game of the season. Alison Gerety added 10 points and eight rebounds.
GREELY 76, WESTBROOK 41: The Rangers (1-1) jumped out to a 19-8 first quarter lead and used a 24-14 second quarter run to pull away to a 22-point advantage at halftime and beat the Blue Blazes (0-2) in Westbrook.
Camille Clement led the way with 24 points for Greely, while Chelsea Graiver added 20, including four 3-pointers.
Natalie LaBrie had 15 points, eight rebounds and four assists for Westbrook.
BOYS’ BASKETBALL
WAYNFLETE 43, WESTBROOK 42: Jared Johnson had eight of his nine points during a 19-5 run for the Flyers (2-1) as they took a 39-25 lead and held off a late charge to down the Blue Blazes (0-2) at Portland.
Chris Saade had 15 points for Waynflete.
Kyle McKone fueled a 17-4 fourth quarter comeback with seven of his game-high 17 points, while Chuil Bayak tossed in 16 as Westbrook came up just short.
DEERING 48, CAPE ELIZABETH 41: Titayo Augusto scored 15 points, including a 3-pointer with less than two minutes remaining to help the Rams (1-2) secure their win over the Capers (1-2) in Cape Elizabeth.
Mpore Semuhoza added 15 points for Deering.
Will Bowe had 14 points for Cape Elizabeth.

EDWARD LITTLE 5, MT. ARARAT/LISBON/MORSE 1: Jack O’Keefe had a hat trick to power the Red Eddies (2-0) to a win over the Eagles (1-4) at the Colisee.
Xander St. Pierre and Trey Coulombe also scored for Edward Little.
Tanner Robleto scored for Mt. Ararat/Lisbon/Morse.
