The University of Maine women’s basketball team’s home series against Vermont this weekend has been postponed after Vermont was “deemed unavailable due to COVID-19 protocols,” the America East Conference announced Thursday.
Instead, Maine will play at noon Saturday and Sunday at Albany. The Black Bears’ series at Albany originally had been scheduled for Feb. 6-7.
Maine is in first place in America East with a 5-1 conference record and is 8-1 overall. Albany is 1-1 in the conference and 2-4 overall.
Makeup dates and times for Maine’s series with Vermont will be announced at a later date.
Maine’s women’s hockey team also had a weekend series at Vermont postponed. The Black Bears were scheduled to play the Catamounts on Friday and Saturday, but instead, they’ll play one game at Northeastern on Sunday.
(2) LOUISVILLE 89, BOSTON COLLEGE 70: Dana Evans scored 24 points, Olivia Cochran added 18 and the Cardinals (11-0, 4-0 Atlantic Coast) defeated the visiting Eagles (5-6, 1-6).
(5) SOUTH CAROLINA 106, VANDERBILT 43: Victaria Saxton scored 20 points and the Gamecocks (9-1, 4-0) routed the Commodores (4-3, 0-2) in Nashville, Tennessee.
LSU 65, (7) TEXAS A&M 61: Khayla Pointer scored seven points in overtime, and the Tigers (5-6, 3-2 Southeastern Conference) upset the Aggies (12-1, 3-1) in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
(9) MARYLAND 90, MINNESOTA 73: Diamond Miller scored 23 points, Chloe Bibby had 22 and the Terrapins (10-1, 6-0 Big Ten) defeated the Golden Gophers (2-7, 1-6) in Minneapolis.
(11) ARIZONA 57, (10) OREGON 41: Aari McDonald scored 16 points and Trinity Baptiste had 14 points and six rebounds to help the Wildcats (9-2, 7-2 Pac-12) snap a 10-game losing streak against the visiting Ducks (9-3, 7-3).
(18) INDIANA 66, PURDUE 45: Grace Berger had 22 points, five rebounds and seven assists, Mackenzie Holmes of Gorham scored 20 points, and the visiting Hoosiers (8-3, 6-1 Big Ten) used a 20-3 second quarter to pull away from the Boilermakers (5-5, 2-4).
Holmes scored 14 points in the first half, and Berger beat the halftime buzzer with a 3-pointer for a 32-15 lead.
The Hoosiers have won by at least 21 points in each of their conference victories – with their loss coming against No. 12 Maryland.
GEORGIA 67, (23) TENNESSEE: Que Morrison scored 13 of her 17 points in the third quarter when the Bulldogs (11-1, 2-1 Southeastern Conference) erased a 17-point deficit and held on to beat the Volunteers (8-2, 2-1) in Knoxville, Tennessee.
VIRGINIA: The Cavaliers have opted out of the remainder of the season, becoming the second Atlantic Coast Conference team to make that decision because of health and safety concerns.
Duke said in December that it would not continue playing. SMU and San Jose State have also ended their seasons.
Virginia was 0-5 and had canceled six games because of COVID protocols.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
(1) GONZAGA 95, PEPPERDINE 70: Corey Kispert had 23 points and eight rebounds as the top-ranked Bulldogs (13-0, 4-0 West Coast) beat the Waves (4-6, 0-1) in Spokane, Washington.
FOOTBALL
ALABAMA: Four stars from the national championship team, including Heisman Trophy finalist quarterback Mac Jones, are leaving early to enter the NFL draft.
Jones, wide receiver Jaylen Waddle, cornerback Patrick Surtain II and defensive lineman Christian Barmore announced their intentions to leave on Thursday. All are considered potential first-round picks.
There also are several Alabama seniors considered likely first-round picks, including Heisman Trophy-winning wide receiver DeVonta Smith, All-America tailback Najee Harris and Outland Trophy winner left tackle Alex Leatherwood.
