NEW SHARON — State fire investigators Tuesday identified Shaina Shaylin-Begin, 59, as the woman who died in a fire that engulfed her home at 198 Mile Hill Road early Saturday morning.
The fire was reported about 2:46 a.m., and when crews arrived the house was engulfed in flames, New Sharon Fire Chief John Welch said Saturday. It was reduced to rubble. An excavator found a body, Welch said.
Shaylin-Begin lived alone in the house, according to a news release from the Office of the State Fire Marshal. Her remains were taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office in Augusta.
The fire remains under investigation. There is no indication of foul play.
Mile Hill Road is also Route 27.
Anyone with information is asked to call 207-973-3700 and ask for investigator Jeremy Damren.
