NEW GLOUCESTER — The Selectboard has appointed former Town Manager Paul First to serve on an interim basis while the town continues its search for a permanent manager.
First worked for New Gloucester from 2009 until 2017. He worked as town planner for five years and as town manager for three.
“It’s wonderful to be back. It’s a great team of employees,” he said.
First’s first day back in office was on Monday, Dec. 2, and he will work three days a week until the Selectboard has chosen a permanent manager.
He said he was not at liberty to disclose his salary.
Former Town Manager Carrie Castonguay, who took over after First left in 2017, recently resigned.
Maine Municipal Association will assist the town in its ongoing search for a permanent manager.
In the meantime, First is enjoying being back in his former position, saying, “New Gloucester is just a beautiful community. There are so many great things about it. I smile every time I drive through town.”
