NAPLES — New Selectboard member Caleb Humphrey said Wednesday that the Nov. 5 election was “a really good race” and that he was pleasantly surprised by how many residents showed up to vote.  

Humphrey came out on top Tuesday in the three-way race for a vacant Selectboard seat. He garnered 333 votes while Rick Paraschak got 232 and Patty Raitto received 180. Humphrey will fill the remaining two years of a three-year term, ending in June 2021. The Selectboard seat was left empty when Rich Cebra resigned in July without giving an explanation.  

Voter turnout on Tuesday was 23.3 percent.  

Humphrey said it was “very exciting” to see so many residents voting, saying, “I appreciate people being involved in the local government.” 

Raitto felt that turnout was low, saying, “The democratic process is a privilege. Not exercising it has natural consequences.” 

She congratulated Humphrey on his victory and said she has “enjoyed meeting new people and engaging in lively discussions about our town during this campaign period.” 

“I am grateful for this opportunity and the lessons learned along the way,” Raitto said. 

Paraschak declined to comment.  

Humphrey will be sworn in at the upcoming Selectboard meeting on Nov. 11.
