The South Portland Historical Society’s museum is a tremendous asset for South Portland, preserving and exhibiting our history — which has a surprising depth.
Whether someone is interested in social, political, religious, commercial/ industrial, or some other vein of history, we have historic material and exhibits covering a wide range.
Of course, being able to open our doors on a daily basis is an amazing feat itself, and made possible entirely by the commitment of an incredible group of volunteers who donate their time and talents.
When these volunteers open our doors each day, they not only provide public access to a wealth of information, but they receive donations of “new” historic material for our archives, and catalog and digitize materials so that they can be preserved and accessed by future generations.
Thank you to our museum family for making a difference every day in South Portland.
