BRUNSWICK — The Western Maine Conference Cross Country Championships were held on Friday at Saint Joseph’s College in Standish.
York claimed both the boys and girls titles.
In the girls meet, the Wildcats ran away with 76 points, with Freeport finishing second with 97. Maine-Coast Waldorf was third (102 points), followed by Cape Elizabeth (112) and Yarmouth (123).
Freeport used a tight pack to score its points. Jane Dawson was 12th, with Falcon teammates Jillian Wright (15th), Elsa Blease (17th), Allison Brown (28th) and Katie Whittier (32nd) scoring.
In the boys race, York’s 48 points edged Maine-Coast Waldorf, which had 53 points. Cape Elizabeth (87) was third, while Freeport (136) and Wells (166) rounded out the top five.
Freeport’s Martin Horne ran the 5K course in 17:51, good for fourth. Teammates Nate David (20th), Henry Horne (31st), Jack DiRusso (37th) and Jeremy Brogan (44th) scored.
The Class B South Regional will be held at Twin Brook Recreational Center in Cumberland on Saturday, with girls running at 11 a.m. and boys at 11:40 a.m.
MVC Championships
Mountain Valley Conference runners headed to UMaine-Augusta on Saturday.
In the boys race, Boothbay/Wiscasset claimed the title, running past runner-up Lisbon by a 50-79 score.
Seahawk Will Perkins claimed the overall title in 17:27.6, edging past Greyhound Aidan Laviolette (17:50.3).
Other Boothbay/Wiscasset scorers were Nathan Chatterton (seventh), Harris Graham (12th), Ryan Russell (14th) and Lucas Hartwick (16th).
For Lisbon, Hunter Burkhardt (13th), Kadrian Rugillies (15th), Max Boulet (25th) and Michael Ray (26th) figured in the scoring.
Richmond had two runners, with Max Viselli in 17th and Benjamin Johnston in 29th.
Winthrop captured the girls title with 41 points, enough to get by Monmouth (43), Boothbay/Wiscasset (76) and Richmond (106).
Leah Wescott of Richmond was the top area finisher, taking fourth in 22:37.9. Paige Lebel (21st), Erica Dickey (31st), Abby Johnson (40th) and Bailey Carraway (44th) figured in the scoring.
Abigail Lucas of Lisbon was 39th, the lone Greyhound to compete.
Glory Blethen and Emerson Harris of Boothbay/Wiscasset were seventh and 10th, respectively.
The Class C South Regional Championships will be at Twin Brook on Saturday, with girls running at 12:20 p.m. and boys at 1 p.m.
