BIDDEFORD — Motorists on Elm Street in Biddeford should expect to experience delays during the week of Sept. 30, city officials said.
A construction project on Elm Street between the Sleepy Hollow Motel and the Audie Insurance Agency will reduce traffic to one lane.
Biddeford officials say that the project is being completed as part of the city’s ongoing sewer separation process in which the old single-pipe system will be replaced with separate sewers for water and storm water drainage.
“Once the replacement is complete, storm water will be discharged directly into receiving water, while wastewater will be treated before discharge,”said Biddeford Public Works Director Jeff Demers. “Under the old system, a combination of wastewater and storm water overflow would drain into bodies of water during heavy rainstorms, causing contamination.”
Work on the project is expected to be completed by Oct. 17.
