SANFORD — Students from Sanford High School’s Jobs for Maine Graduates program are working with Special Olympics York County to launch the first annual candlepin bowling competition, set for 9 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 22 at Bowl-A-Rama, lower Main St., Sanford.
“This event is for athletes in high school through adult. Divisions will be determined based on age groups,” said Dennis Dean, Program Director of Special Olympics York County. “The competition will be traditional singles and singles ramp bowling and no experience necessary.”
According to SHS’s JMG Specialist Cheryl Gifford, students wanted to give back to their community and saw a need to offer more opportunities for teenagers and adults with intellectual disabilities. “In the classroom, we look at the needs of our community and ways to give back,” she said.
Athletes who would like to register or for more information, contact JMG Specialists Cheryl Gifford at cgifford@jmg.org by Oct. 4.
