Editor,
Mainers rely on the internet every day. The internet is faster and easier to use than ever before, and it shows: Mainers benefit from the ever-evolving changes that broadband has experienced. From running a business to making telemedicine possible, access to broadband Internet has revolutionized the way we run our lives.
Unfortunately, bureaucrats in Washington want to interfere by imposing Depression-era regulations. This will slow down our internet and limit broadband access. These regulations will hurt consumers and prevent us from experiencing the benefits of 21st century technology.
Maine recently approved new telehealth rules this past legislative season, but if the federal government imposes this bureaucratic red tape on our Internet, we won’t get to reap the benefits. These benefits have the potential to revolutionize the medical industry in our state but only if the government keeps their hands off our Internet.
Losing out on private investments and limiting our access to broadband will negatively impact communities across the state. Our representatives in Congress need to take a stand and say no to a government takeover of the internet.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
