PORTLAND — Maine Playwrights Festival has begun accepting scripts for the 2020 festival, which runs from April 23 t0 May 3. The deadline for submissions is Nov. 26.
Maine residents are eligible to submit a new play between 8 and 30 minutes in length for consideration in the festival, organized by Acorn Productions.
The 2020 Maine Playwrights Festival will feature two weekends of performances at the Studio Theater at Portland Stage, 25 Forest Ave. Each year, playwrights from across Maine submit upwards of 70 scripts to the festival. A committee of local theater professionals reads them and selects a small group of plays for production. Over the years, the festival has showcased more than 100 Maine playwrights, many of whom have had their work produced at festivals across the country.
Playwrights who are interested in submitting a new play for consideration or registering for the class should visit Acorn’s website at www.acorn-productions.org.
