1962 – 2019
BAILEY ISLAND – Nye H. Richardson, 56, of Bailey Island, died unexpectedly in his home Friday, August 30, 2019 just as he always said he would. Nye was a life-long clam digger and lobsterman who was happiest on the water, never in it, and shooting the breeze with his friends at Bass Rock, Glendon’s wharf or with his dear friends, George Coffin and Peter Curtis at Peter’s home in Mackerel Cove.
Nye was a hard worker from a very young age and he always said he was the jack of all trades, master of none. He has done well drilling, carpentry, delivered beer for his brother, Squeak, at Federal Distributors then finally settled on drywall with his late brother, Rodney, for over 30 years.
Nye married his high school sweetheart, Stacy Dunning (Richardson) in 1986, living in his family home where they worked on repairing and rebuilding it for their two daughters, LeAndra and Shania with a lot of help from family and friends. Though divorced in 2009, Nye and Stacy remained close friends, spending holidays and family occasions with their children and grandchildren.
Throughout his life, Nye was a great friend and would always make himself available if they needed him, and he and Stacy claimed many kids as their own, not related by blood, but by love, and to the very end, whether he saw them all the time or very rarely, they were his kids.
Nye was predeceased by his father, Adelbert W. Richardson, his mother, Leoline J. Moody Richardson Morgan and a stepfather, Chester W. Morgan; a sister, Irene Brown and her husband, Fred, and a brother, Rodney Richardson and his wife, Doreen.
Nye is survived by his daughter, LeAndra and her fiancé, John Chaput, another daughter, Shania and her partner, Corey Steinman; his former wife and friends, Stacy Richardson and her fiancé, Dennis Burns; and a former son-in-law, Zack Coonce. Nye also leaves two grandsons, Grayson Richardson-Coonce and Abel Richardson-Grenier, and two granddaughters, MacKenzie Richardson and Arianna Richardson; a brother A. Sanford “Squeak” Richardson and his wife Gail; several nephews, nieces, cousins and many friends.
Please join us in a celebration of his life on Saturday, Sept. 7, 2019, 2 p.m. in Mackerel Cove, Abner Point Rd., Bailey Island. Bring a dish to share and a story to tell!
