SPRINGVALE – The two people who were injured Saturday night in Springvale when the Kia Forte they were in hit the guardrail and left the roadway have both been released from the hospital, police said on Monday afternoon.
The vehicle, operated by Hunter Penley, 23, of North Berwick, collided with several trees and rolled onto its side.
The Kia was headed north on Route 109 toward Shapleigh when the crash took place in an area known as the “S” curve around 7 p.m., said Sanford Deputy Police Chief Tim Strout.
The passenger, Dean Towne, 42, of Acton, sustained incapacitating injuries and was transported by LifeFlight of Maine to Maine Medical Center in Portland, said Strout.
Penley was taken to Maine Medical Center by a Sanford Fire Department ambulance.
Both have since been released from hospital, said Strout in a Monday afternoon updated press release.
He said witnesses have said the vehicle was operating erratically – veering from side to side on the roadway.
The crash remains under investigation, he said.
“No cause has been established at this point,” said Strout.
He said an accident reconstruction expert from Cumberland County was called in Saturday evening.
No charges have been filed.
Route 109 was closed for a time Saturday night as emergency personnel and police worked at the scene.
