HARTFORD, Conn. — Dylan Hardy drove in Jerry Downs with a sacrifice hit in the seventh inning, leading the Portland Sea Dogs to a 2-1 win over the Hartford Yard Goats in the first game of an Eastern League doubleheader on Wednesday.

The sacrifice hit by Hardy capped a two-run inning and gave the Sea Dogs a 2-1 lead after Downs hit an RBI double earlier in the inning.

In the bottom of the sixth, Hartford broke a scoreless tie on a double by Tyler Nevin that scored Vance Vizcaino.

Starter Konner Wade (4-4) got the win while Scott Griggs (1-3) took the loss in relief.

For the Yard Goats, Nevin doubled twice.

Tate Scioneaux and three other pitchers combined for a shutout as the Yard Goats defeated the Sea Dogs, 2-0, in the second game.

Scioneaux (3-2) went three scoreless innings, striking out four and walking one to get the win. Kutter Crawford (1-3) went two innings, allowing one run and two hits. He also struck out three and walked one.

Hartford scored its runs when Manuel Melendez scored on an error in the first inning and Vance Vizcaino stole home in the sixth.

The Sea Dogs were held off the scoreboard for the 14th time this season, while the Yard Goats’ staff recorded their 10th shutout of the year.
