SACO Firefighters were able to quickly put out a fire in a north Saco home on Monday morning.

Crews responded to the scene of a fire at a ranch-style home at 109 Rocky Hill Road about 11:10 a.m., said Saco Fire Chief John Duross.

Crews from Biddeford, Old Orchard Beach, Buxton and Scarborough, and Gorham were at the scene of the fire assisted Saco, and Goodwins Mills firefighters provided station coverage in Saco and Biddeford.

Shortly after noon, the fire was extinguished but some fire personnel still remained on scene to check for hot spots and do any necessary clean up.

The homeowner was at the house at the time of the fire, which began in the kitchen, said Duross; she was able to vacate the home with no apparent injuries. It is unclear how the fire began, he said.

The home sustained “extensive interior damage” and is not inhabitable at this time, said Duross.

According to online city records, the homeowner of 109 Rocky Hill Road is listed as Valerie McEvoy. The home is assessed at nearly $138,000, and the property, which includes the three-bedroom, ranch-style house and 3.25 acres, is assessed at about $223,000.

A representative from the American Red Cross of Maine was reaching out to the homeowner on Monday, said Red Cross spokeswoman Ann Kim.

The Red Cross helps people in times of fire and other disasters, ensuring immediate needs such as clothing, food and temporary housing are met and providing emotional support. Red Cross will keep in touch with displaced residents and provide community referrals as they begin their road to recovery, said Kim.
