“Rag-Tag: A Circus In Stitches” is a family friendly, full-length performance featuring a roster of multi-talented professional circus artists. The show will take place at The Sellam Circus School, 40 Main St., Suite 135, at 7 p.m. on July 12 and 13 and 3 p.m. on July 14. Tickets can be purchased online at www.thecirqueus.com/schedule–tickets.html.
Since 2016, Cirque Us has been producing fresh, contemporary and emotionally uplifting circus shows, and has been featured at the Smithsonian Folk Life Festival. Cirque Us productions have featured 23 artists with a collective resume that includes Circus Smirkus, Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus, The Midnight Circus, Circus Spire, Aida Cruises and Cirque du Soleil — many of whom are former students of Sellam El Ouahabi, founder of The Sellam Circus School.
“Rag Tag” carries on the Cirque Us tradition of intimate, accessible shows that feature high-flying aerialists, contortionists, jugglers, clowns and more, of unmatched talent.
In addition, Lauren Breunig will offer Intro to Trapeze and Aerial Silks workshops.
Breunig is a graduate of the New England Center for Circus Arts (NECCA) ProTrack Program. She is the pioneer of an original apparatus, the Sliding Trapeze, and has been featured as an innovative aerialist in festivals across the United States. Now working as a freelance artist, she delights audiences large and small with performances on the Sliding Trapeze as well as aerial sling, static trapeze and aerial silks. Breunig teaches circus arts to students of all ages at studios, schools, camps, and festivals around the U.S. and abroad, and she also leads teacher training courses.
Circus workshops will take place at The Sellam Circus School on Sunday, July 14, starting at 10 a.m. Online registration is live at www.thesellamcircus.com/workshops.
Those who wish to preview the performance skills of Cirque Us can do so at the Halo at the Point event space at Thompson’s Point in Portland at the monthly Saturday Spectacular at noon on July 13. Saturday Spectaculars are a series of free-to-the-public performances and mini-workshops offered in a partnership between Thompson’s Point and The Sellam Circus School.
