KENNEBUNK — Residents in Kennebunk, Arundel and Kennebunkport approved the Regional School Unit 21 fiscal year 2020 $50.3 million budget by about 71 percent of the vote.
The three towns collectively voted 1,277 to 528 to approve the budget. Kennebunk, residents voted 896 to 368, Kennebunkport residents voted 286 to 85 and Arundel residents voted 95 to 65.
The three communities also voted 1,347 to 411 to continue the three-step budget validation process for three more years. Residents in Kennebunk approved this measure 951 to 286, Kennebunkport residents voted 288 to 76 and Arundel residents voted 108 to 49.
This vote continues the current process, through which a school budget is first approved by the regional school board, then voted on by members of all three communities in attendance at a public meeting, and finally voted on at a district-wide referendum.
