1935 – 2019

AUGUSTA – George H. St. Pierre passed away surrounded by his loving family on May 11, 2019, at the age of 83, at the Maine Veteran’s Home in Augusta, Maine.

George was born on Nov. 1, 1935 in New Orleans, La. He was predeceased by his mother, Lema (Naquin) St. Pierre; his father, June St. Pierre Sr.; his older sister, Yvette (St. Pierre) Haydel; and his younger brother, June St. Pierre. Jr.

George graduated from Lutcher High School in 1953 and enlisted in the United States Navy in August of that same year.

While serving at the Brunswick Naval Air Station, George met his bride and love of his life, Patricia St. Pierre, in the summer of 1955 at Popham Beach, and they would marry on July 7, 1956. Patricia and George would have celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary this year.

In October of 1956, George was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy with a Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Ribbon.

He then began a 34-year career working for the United States Postal Service. He retired in 1990 after having served as a postmaster.

George loved to help others and, while a resident of Augusta, he coached baseball and served as the president of the Augusta East Little League. He loved his time at Ocean Park in the summers with his family and enjoyed his trips to Oxford and Bangor. He also loved returning to his home state, Louisiana, to visit his family.

A lifelong devout Catholic, George was the patriarch of an amazing family and, with Patricia, raised them all with faith at the center of their lives. Together they had six children, 13 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren and was looking forward to his fifth in October 2019. George’s family was the most important thing in his life.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia (Parquette) St. Pierre of Augusta; his daughters, Deborah Vachon and her husband, Paul, Dolly Ford and her husband, Gary, and Becky Lewis and her husband, Steve, all of Augusta; Mary Lancaster and her husband, Dick of Brunswick, and his sons, Mark St. Pierre and his wife, Kim Finethy, of Brunswick, and Scott St. Pierre and his wife, Kendra, of Slidell, La.

He is also survived by his grandchildren: Amy Vachon, Aaron Vachon and his wife, Stacy; Adam Vachon and his wife, Jamie; Corey Ford and his wife, Lilianne; Brittany Sanford and her husband, David; Jordan and Brett Lancaster; Mackenzie Lewis, Sydney, Aubrey and Gabrielle St. Pierre; and Alex and Joey Hyde.

And his four great-grandchildren: Olivia, Zoey, Emmeline, and Harvey.

He is also survived by his siblings: Gene St. Pierre and his wife Linda; Nettie Calcagno, Judy Heltz, and his sister-in-law Leola St. Pierre all of Gramercy.

George’s family would like to thank the amazing staff at the Maine Veteran’s home who helped make the last three months feel like home.

All are welcome to attend visiting hours from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, May 15, at Plummer’s Funeral Home at 16 Pleasant St., in Augusta. The funeral service will be Thursday, May 16, 2019, at 11 a.m., at St. Mary’s Catholic Church at 41 Western Ave., in Augusta. All are welcome to a reception at The Calumet Club following the service.
