Two months after finishing her playing career at the University of Maine, Parise Rossignol of Van Buren has been named an assistant coach of Maine’s women’s basketball team.

Rossignol averaged 11.4 points and made an America East-best 42 percent of her 3-point attempts as a senior this winter to help lead Maine to the conference title and an NCAA tournament appearance for a second consecutive season. In her final college game, Rossignol made five 3-pointers and scored a team-high 19 points in Maine’s 63-51 first-round NCAA loss at North Carolina State.

At Van Buren High, Rossignol scored 2,589 points. After playing sparingly in her first two seasons at Maine, Rossignol took a break from the sport for one year. When she returned she was a key contributor with her outside shooting and was named the America East Sixth Player of the Year in 2018 and a second-team all-conference selection in 2019.

BASEBALL

EASTERN CONNECTICUT 4, SOUTHERN MAINE 1: Jack Rich hit an RBI double in the third inning and Luke Broadhurst homered in the fifth as the fourth-seeded Warriors (23-17) took a 2-0 lead on the way to a win over top-seeded Huskies (33-6) in the double-elimination Little East Conference tournament in Gorham.

Southern Maine, ranked No. 2 nationally, got an RBI single from Jack Sylvia in the seventh, but Eastern Connecticut responded with two unearned runs in the bottom of the inning.

Gage Feeney allowed the four runs on five hits and three walks while striking out six in 6 1/3 innings for Southern Maine.

The Huskies will play Rhode Island College at noon Saturday.

FOOTBALL

MAINE: Running back Ramon Jefferson remains suspended from all football-related activities after pleading guilty Wednesday to a misdemeanor charge of criminal mischief.

Jefferson paid a a $250 fine and $500 in restitution to replace a broken cell phone from a Feb. 6 incident in Bangor, according to the Bangor Daily News.

Jefferson, a 19-year-old from the Bronx, New York, was arrested at his home on Feb. 6 and charged with two Class D crimes: domestic violence assault and criminal mischief. He pleaded not guilty to both charges, and was suspended from all football-related activities while the school’s Student Conduct Office in the Division of Student Life launched an investigation.

Jefferson appeared at the Penobscot Judicial Center in Bangor on Wednesday. In a plea agreement with the Penobscot Valley district attorney’s office, a misdemeanor charge of domestic violence criminal threatening was dismissed. Prosecutors substituted the criminal threatening count for the domestic assault charge, according to the Bangor Daily News.

The 5-foot-10, 205-pound Jefferson became Maine’s lead running back in 2018 as a redshirt freshman. Jefferson rushed 1,037 yards last fall, including a career-high 186 in a 55-27 win over Jacksonville State in the second round of the NCAA playoffs.
