BRUNSWICK – Ret. Major USMC Douglas Parker Stewart, 82, passed May 7, 2019 at Hill House Assisted Living, Bath.

He was born June 3, 1936 in Somerville, Mass., the son of Roy and Marie Anderson Stewart. He grew up in Woolwich, summering in Stockholm. He was a graduate of Morse High School, 1954, and Bryant College, 1957. He married June Sylvia Knight Aug. 9, 1958 in Foster R.I.

Mr. Stewart was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, completing two Vietnam tours, and retiring after 20 years of service. Following his discharge from service, he was employed as a systems analyst at BIW and L.L. Bean.

He was a member of the Masons and the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Brunswick. Throughout his life, he had volunteered as a Boy Scouts of America leader, Maine Maritime Museum, Phippsburg’s Fire and Emergency services, and as a swim coach.  He enjoyed camping, music, travel, sailing, and his time spent flying planes. He especially enjoyed vacations with his family at Madawaska Lake.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, June Stewart; a son, Andrew Roy Stewart and his wife, Lisa-Marie, a daughter, Christine Lynn Stewart and her partner, Chrystal Courtois; grandchildren, Marie Stewart Harmon and her husband, Matthew, Joshua Andrew Stewart and his partner, Cecelia French; several cousins and dear friends.

Friends and family are invited to visit 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, May 14, at the Brackett Funeral Home, 29 Federal Street, Brunswick. A memorial service with military honors will be celebrated 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 15, at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Brunswick.
