ALFRED — A traffic stop precipitated by a broken taillight and an expired inspection sticker led to the arrest of a suspect allegedly driving on a suspended license.
As well, York County Sheriff William L. King Jr., said Stephen Thuotte, 57, of Waterboro had previously been released on bail conditions and that he was the subject of an active warrant for allegedly failing to appear at court.
The traffic stop by Deputy Kevin Collins took place at around 4 p.m. on Monday, said King.
Thuotte was arrested on the warrant and taken to the York County Jail. He was also charged with operating after suspension and violating conditions of release.
King said Thuotte is not eligible for bail due to the nature of the charges.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
