Bailey Island– Edgar S. Hutchins, Jr., age 83, died Friday April 26, 2019 at Horizon’s Assisted Living, Brunswick.
In 1959, Edgar and Ruby bought his grandfather’s store at Land’s End, Bailey Island. Edgar retired (sort of) after selling the business to his son Howard. He and Ruby spent their winters in Florida.
Ed was a graduate of culinary studies from the University of Massachusetts. He was a current member of the Elks Lodge, Brunswick and formerly a member of the Kiwanis Club. He owned and operated multiple Gift Stores, most notably Land’s End, Bailey Island and The Hutch in Boothbay Harbor. Ed was awarded the Retailer of The Year Award from the Maine SBA in 1992.
He is survived by his wife Ruby of Bailey Island; his two sons and daughter in-laws, Howard & Karen Hutchins of Bailey Island, Ronald & Wendy Hutchins of Orr’s Island; four brothers, James, Donald, Robert, and Richard; two granddaughters Jessica Hutchins and Devon Hutchins; several nieces and nephews.
