Midcoast Humane
BRUNSWICK – Fred is 1-and-a-half-year-old lab/pit mix who has been ready and waiting for his family since Feb. 18 at Midcoast Humane. He is a “No Paw Left Behind” animal, which means he’s been at the shelter for a while and he needs help from animal lovers in our community to reach the right home.
Fred is a smart and friendly young guy who will continue to blossom to his full potential in the right home. In his time at Midcoast Humane, he has mellowed and warmed up to people, quickly becoming a volunteer and staff favorite. He knows sit, paw, and lay down – unless he sees another dog, in which case he’d much rather say “hello” and make a new dog friend.
Fred loves chasing balls, and he would thrive with an active family where he won’t be alone for long periods of time. If you need a hiking, beach or walking buddy, Fred is your guy! He is wonderful on a leash, and he enjoys a good bum scratch. He would do well with canine siblings, and your adoption counselor can organize a “meet and greet” with any potential dog brothers/sisters that currently live in your home.
Because he can be wary of strangers, we recommend that Fred live in an adult-only home or a home with kids 13 years or older who understand not to roughhouse with him or push him past his comfort zone. We are not sure how he is around cats, but we can recommend some ways to introduce him to cats at home during your adoption.
We recommend further training for Fred, and as a “No Paw Left Behind” animal, Midcoast Humane will provide up to three free one-on-one training sessions with our staff dog trainer at our Pleasant Street facility or in your home, provided you don’t live too far away. Fred’s fee is waived to the right family. Fred is currently located at Midcoast Humane’s Edgecomb campus. To meet Fred, call (207) 449-1366 ext. 302 to schedule a visit.
